Utility sinks

A utility sink comes in two different varities. The large variety is used in a Laundry Room or Utility Room. The smaller sink is used in either a kitchen or home bar as an addition to the main stainless steel kitchen sink. It comes in both a topmount utility sink and an undermount utility sink application.

With the addition of utility room sinks in homes and workplaces, cleaning the grungy, grimy and unsightly has become a little easier and far more practical. Unmentionables and pets will no longer have to be washed in the same sink as the dishes or vegetables.  They are available in variety of materials, colors, sizes and styles, making them easy to incorporate in to an existing mud or laundry room or as part of a new utility area.

Utility sinks serve a variety of purposes in the home and around the work place. Utility sinks are commonly found in laundry rooms, garden workstations, garages, boathouses and summer cabins as well as in shops and other workspaces.  Utility sinks are generally deeper, wider and more heavy duty than the average kitchen sink as they are designed for tougher cleaning jobs such as potting new plants, hand washing laundry, bathing pets and washing mud off of footwear.

Many new homes are being built with mud or laundry rooms and utility sinks are becoming more and more common. With this increase in demand, the choices in sizes, styles and materials are also increasing. They are available in stainless steel, fireclay, cast iron and composite materials. Stainless steel is a popular choice because of its durability and stain resistance. It is also easy to clean and looks sharp in any setting. When purchasing a stainless steel utility sink, the stainless steel should be no less than 18 gauge, but 16 gauge is preferable as it is more durable and scratch resistant.

Regardless of whether the utility sink is located is new or existing, the addition of a utility sink will make the space not only more functional but attractive as well.
